Some owners go hog-wild and put a lot of time and money into their cars. These cars travel the circuit and win a lot of contests.
However, there's a lot of room for all sorts of cars. Some of the categories include unfinished, where the car may need a paint job, or interior. Or, the car could have been towed there, lacking an engine. Anything goes in that category.
They even have a category for the younger set. 21 years of age or younger can enter in the Junior Division.
This year the event will give out 80 first and second place awards, with 10 Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Paint, etc.
They wall also have a Mayor's Choice, Police Chief's Choice, Longest Distance, to name a few.
Newly named Fortuna Police Chief Kris Kitna is judging for the "Police Chief Award" for the first time this year.
"I've filled in for past Police Chief's in the past," said Kitna. "This year is my first official year judging that category."
Kitna goes for the "eat off the engine" super fixed up cars.
"I like the fully restored cars from the 1960's and 70's," said Kitna. "I go for the Corvettes, and green is my favorite color."
Kitna says in the past he's even voted for a fully restored paddy wagon, which is appropriate to his calling.
According to Goodale, the classes are divided up into three color card ballots of orange, pink and yellow with 12 to 14 different classes on each card.
"Where you park depends on what color you are in, "said Goodale. "This makes it easier in that you don't have to walk up and down nine blocks looking for the cars."
By noon on Saturday the ballots are turned in and are sorted by computer. If all goes well, by 3pm runners put certificates on the cars that placed.
Sunday morning all first place vehicles line up on Park Street at 9am and then drive through the Trophy Presentation at 10am. All second place awards are announced at Rohner Park, and winners can come to the grandstands to accept their awards.
