More Info:

Fortuna is a little known city and an unlikely vacation destination. Perhaps that's why it was selected by National Geographic as one of the top unspoiled beautiful vacation destinations in America.

The Statue of Liberty is 305 feet tall, from the bottom of the base to the top of the torch. The tallest known redwood tree in Humboldt State Park has that beat - and by 75 feet!

What to see and what to do

Something else to do besides attend the Fortuna Redwood AutoXpo? Oh, you mean like see a movie at the Fortuna Theater? Or have a hot dog at Bob's Footlongs?

Oh, you mean THOSE kind of things to see and do! Well, gosh. Where to start, there's so much.

Visit the redwoods. Take a drive down the Avenue of the Giants. Stand in awe of trees that were saplings when the Romans ruled the world. Get a crick in your neck.

Ferndale! A photographer's paradise in a fairy-tale setting. Ferndale has starred in two major motion pictures, Outbreak, starring Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman, and The Majestic, starring Jim Carrey. Explore the museums, take a stroll into the romantic past, visit quaint gift and specialty shops, gawk at gingerbread houses, see the blacksmith at his forge. And that's just Main Street.

What else? The Loleta Cheese Factory, they ship out tons of the stuff and you can take their tour. The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge for birding, hiking and canoeing. The beaches and bluffs for exploring. If you really want an adventure to brag about, drive the Wildcat and see why they film the car commercials there; visit the Lost Coast and Cape Mendocino, too; stand on the western-most spot in the continental United States and bring home the western-most pebble you found on that beach.

More? Seaports, elk, wineries, fossils, museums, rafting, whales, agates, Sasquatch, fishing, jet boats, skate parks, rodeos, sweathouses, rivers, lighthouses... whew, we're out of breath, there's lots more, check it out here, 101 things to do in Humboldt County.
